Optimization of the structural coupling between RC frames, CLT shear walls and asymmetric friction connections

Abstract This paper focuses on the optimum design of e-CLT technology. The technology consists in adding cross laminated timber (CLT) walls to an existing reinforced concrete (RC) infilled frame via asymmetric friction connection (AFC). authors carried out quasi-static and nonlinear dynamic analyses. RC is modeled OpenSees by fiber-section-based elements with force-based formulation. contribution infill simulated using a degrading data-driven Bouc–Wen model slip-lock element while AFC modelled modified Coulomb model. Different types infill, aspect ratio, scaling, member size are considered. benefits discussed ranges performance estimated. A comparison traditional infills system presented. provide intervals ratio between slip force in-plane stiffness CLT panel, following energy displacement-based criteria. seismic displacement demand under various scenario investigated. Correlations characteristics ratios bestow possible criteria for AFC.
